Eastern time zone not in kids' best interests

Every school day, 1.35 million school-age children in Indiana are unnecessarily placed in danger by having to wait in total darkness for their school buses to pick them up.

Under the cover of darkness, girls have been raped, children have been robbed of their lunch money and (recently) another young student was run over and killed by his own school bus. What can we possibly be thinking!

In the winter, the sun is at its meridian over Indianapolis at 12:57 p.m. and in the summer at almost 2 p.m.

We are in the wrong time zone!

Look at the time zone map in the front of your telephone book and explain why the line doesn’t continue upward between Indiana and Ohio rather than jogging over to Illinois.

Thirteen percent of Indiana’s counties are on Central time already, with the rest being on Eastern time. Talk about confusing!

It would be daylight on our street corners at 7 a.m. if we were on Central time.

Please join me in speaking for our children and grandchildren. Tell your legislators to get their priorities straight. Fix Indiana’s time zone disaster and place all of Indiana in the Central time zone.

Also: Darkness brings kids indoors. Consider the potential impact on school performance if students spent an additional hour in the evening on their homework.
