What’s not to like? Absolutely delicious entrees, huge portions, and the low cost just make this a definite must try. Plus there is enough variety to appeal to just about anyone’s taste.
I’d say this is some of the best comfort food around.

it could very well be the revolving menu at Yat’s. I love this place. Even the soft drinks here are great. No complaints. None.

I started going here during my days at Butler. Fell in love with the chili cheese etoufee, and then found out they had a vegetarian version! Now, my usual is the spinach mushroom etoufee. Portion sizes are too much for me, so I generally order a half order which is perfect. Love the bread, and Joe, he’s awesome. :)
If you haven’t tried Yats, you have to. It’s an Indianapolis legend. I have a few friends that have left and every time they come to town they want Yats!

The jambalaya and hunter stew never disappoint, the only complaint i have is the seating at lunch, youve gotta be a vulture on the lookout to make sure you get a seat some days.

Yats is always filling, always tasty, always quick, and always cheap! Every time I’m there I get an extra side of bread cause it’s so darn tasty (though I never eat it there cause I get too full, but it makes a great left over!). Yat’s may not be true cajun, but call it what ever you like, it’s darn tasty. I’d eat there any day of the week!

I have never been to New Orleans, but if their food is better than Yat’s, I might never leave once i visit.
I love sopping up the extras with my garlicy buttered bread.
The prices are perfect – $5 for a mound of food, and it’s got enough spice without killing me.
the guys behind the bar are laid back and friendly and it’s a quick serve and you’re ready to eat!
I LOVE YATS!!!

I wish it was closer. I would go there allllllll the time. I’m constantly trying to talk people into going but everyone wants to go somewhere else. Picky people!!! Yats is god! Don’t they know this?

I grew up on great Cajun food thanks to my wonderful grandmother in Baton Rouge. Trust me, there’s no such thing as “Chili Cheese Etouffee” down there, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t taste completely AWESOME at Yats. And for $5? Good Lord.

Very kid friendly, the great people behind the counter will usually hook your little one up with plain rice and toasy bread!
I love the way this place looks in the winter, all fogged up as you walk past on the street, just inviting you in!
I paid a $20 parking tix last month just I could have me some Yats! (I didn’t know this going in, but found out after my delicious meal so It didn’t really dampen my spirit any!)
I used to leave work at Scholar’s Inn and come eat at Yat’s… Scholar’s is really great food but Yat’s is on a completely different level!

Can’t beat this place!!! So cheap but so delicious, so fast, so wonderful. I think I’m having a love affair with the spinach mushroom etoufee. Ditto to all above!

who cares about what’s good and not good for you. Yats is just about the finest tasting food i’ve had in all of Indianapolis! it is magically delicious! the chili cheese etoufee and that bread are to die for! large cups for drinks with free refills allows you to pour on the hot sauce. seriously, i could eat this every single day if I wasn’t concerned about living past 35.

I just had my first Yats experience earlier today, and I noshed on the Chili Cheese Etouffe per the many recommendations I’ve gotten from INtake/indy.com over the past few years. I have to say it’s as advertised. Great stuff. It was heaven on a bed of rice.
I was also amused by the cashier dude who sarcastically remarked to a group leaving the restaurant as we entered “Thanks for using our restroom without buying anything.” He noted that they spent two hours there without buying any food.

But which is better? Spinach and mushroom or chili cheese etouffee?
Happily, I just get a half and half order of each and don’t have to decide.

With or without chicken is perfect. Haven’t had a truly negative experience yet, and that’s after many meals! Only drawback is finding a seat when it’s busy and that it closes at 7 on Sundays.

…me gotta go, me oh my oh
Me gotta go pole the pirogue down the bayou.
My Yvonne, the sweetest one, me oh my oh
Son of a gun, we’ll have big fun on the bayou.
Jambalaya and a crawfish pie and fillet gumbo
‘Cause tonight I’m gonna see my ma cher amio
Pick guitar, fill fruit jar and be gay-o
Son of a gun, we’ll have big fun on the bayou.
Thibodaux, Fontaineaux, the place is buzzin’
Kinfolk come to see Yvonne by the dozen
Dress in style and go hog wild, me oh my oh
Son of a gun, we’ll have big fun on the bayou.
Jambalaya and a crawfish pie and fillet gumbo
‘Cause tonight I’m gonna see my ma cher amio
Pick guitar, fill fruit jar and be gay-o
Son of a gun, we’ll have big fun on the bayou.
Settle down far from town, get me a pirogue
And I’ll catch all the fish in the bayou
Swap my mon to buy Yvonne what she need-o
Son of a gun, we’ll have big fun on the bayou.
Jambalaya and a crawfish pie and fillet gumbo
‘Cause tonight I’m gonna see my ma cher amio
Pick guitar, fill fruit jar and be gay-o
Son of a gun, we’ll have big fun on the bayou.

Yats’ easy going vibe, simple business plan, delicious food and huge portions have made cajun cuisine positively Hoosier.
