Thai Spice (2316 E. County Line Road, Indianapolis, IN)6
I first had Thai in SF and the atmosphere was beautiful, now being from the south side of Indy I don’t really have a problem that the decor isn’t spectacular(if it was, that would be great!)
But for the food and price it is really very good! -
St. Elmo Steak House (127 S. Illinois St., Indianapolis, IN)12
We dined here to celebrate our anniversary during devour downtown.
Not only did we get an exceptional meal with fabulous service, we got it at a great price. We will be back to pay full price in the near future!
The BLT salad was phenomenal, The filet perfect, and the service exceptional.. oh and the shrimp cocktail was perfectly fiery.
Be sure to say hi, to Duck the bartender. We used to visit him at the Front Page and he has been at St. E’s now for 4 years. Our server, David, had been there 22 years and was the best server I have ever had. period.
Forget the chains, check out an Indy classic

Stone Creek Dining Company (911 Ind. 135 North, Greenwood, IN)2
Seriously is it to much to ask for great service???
I don’t know what it is, possibly just this chain because I had a similar experience at a sister restaurant. But service kind of sucks!
The food is good, and the menu well thought out. Good house salad with mixed greens, basil marinated tomatoes, cheddar, mozzarella, sprouts, thin red onions, and sunflower seeds. To bad the dressing wasn’t homemade, it would have made it incredible!
The bread and tomato w/ a hint of jalapeno dipping oil was great. But it was that really tasty bread that expands in your stomach after you eat it all because you are starving kind of bread…
Needless to say by the time I got my (uncreative) Barbeque Chicken Pizza I was overly full! I love California Pizza Kitchen Barbeque Chicken Pizza it has BBQ, Chix, Gouda, Mozzarella and Red Onion, oh and the best part is you can find the same thing at Stone Creek!!!
The service part that irks me:
I always ask a server what they recommend (they do work there and see the food and hopefully eat the food… so who better to ask right?) so my server said everything. OK great. everything is great. So I said, " what appetizers?" She said, “the spinach dip.” I said, “oh, okay thanks.” I noticed it had bleu cheese, I don’t usually do bleu cheese so I continued to read the menu.. next think I know I get a spinach dip, which as she set it down I let her know we didn’t order.. no big deal mistakes happen.
The BF had a coke, okay maybe 2, but we had to ask for a refill every time and that was when he was completely out.
They say imitation is the sincerest form or flattery, I guess this motto is working for Stone Creek.

Charbono's (128 Ind. 267, Avon, IN)3
Dined here a few years ago and that experience hasn’t prompted my return.
I can remember I ordered crab stuffed shrimp, and was with a party or about 10 or so. All the food came out except for my b-i-l’s. The food was okay, as was the service. I don’t know about you, but when I go out I want it to be fun and I want service to be great. I am finding that might be too much to ask for in this town.. or at least at this chain.

Hal's Fabulous Vegas Bar & Grille (1133 N. Ind. 135, Greenwood, IN)2
Having spent many many years in the building that now houses Hal’s (as a server at Stringer’s) many years ago. I decided I should go in and check the new look and menu out. Have heard only good things, this sounded like the perfect place for a date night sans child.
Seven thirty on a Saturday night I expected the place to be full, to my delighted surprise it was not. I want to eat where everyone else wants to eat, just not as the same time as everyone else. The youngish host greeted us politely at the door and the seater turned out to be our server. Who after seating us, announced she would be our server and then disappeared for about 5 minutes without a drink order…
Upon reappearance I asked for a Martini recommendation, the list being extensive and intriguing I wondered what was popular. They feature “Classics” such as Harvey Wallbangers, Sidecars, Old Fashioneds, just to name a few. As well as what seems to be newly created ones, Such as the Cosmotini which I ended up ordering, with a lack recommendation, it was wonderful. I expected nothing less from the proprietor of the Slippery Noodle.
We were asked if we wanted an appetizer, I again asked for a recommendation…, everything was good seemed to be a popular answer.
We passed on the app and went straight for dinner. The server did mention the steaks were her favorite but not a specific one. I went with the small Filet, Oscar style (hollandaise, asparagus, and crab meat) it included one side, I chose the made from scratch fries (think In and Out Burger!) My beaux went with the Surf and Turf, filet with cajun shrimp, it included a small house salad.
I thought it was interesting that some steaks included a salad while others included a side. I thought it could have been a little more thought out.
The salad was fresh and tasty, the Ranch dressing was very good, homemade with a little kick!
Our dinners arrived promptly and while the meat was delicious, they were both Medium instead of our ordered Medium Rare. While I would have sent it back for the correct temp the server never checked back to make sure everything was great with in a timely manner. So being hungry we ate both the steaks, and she did finely return to ask if “Everything was alright?” and it was …alright.
We skipped dessert, they featured and apple dumpling, cheesecake, creme brulee, and a chocolate dessert of some kind.
I would love to go back, it is a great building with an awesome ambiance. If the staff treated you like you were in Vegas this place would be a great hit.

Ted's Montana Grill (5910 W. 86th St., Suite 134, Indianapolis, IN)6
I love the blue plate specials, the braised short ribs are amazing! The clay terrace location is my favorite but this location is pretty good!
-
Romano's Macaroni Grill (5720 W. 86th St., Indianapolis, IN)5
I have NEVER had a good experience at this place. Every time the food is either wrong, cold or the service is really bad. Just another chain Italian restaurant..
-
Donatos (1250 E. Stop 11 Road, Greenwood, IN)1
Always there is a wait or back up, or mayhem of some sort going on with the employees. But the pizza usually turns out pretty good for a chain.
The chaos makes me a little uneasy trying to dine in, but it is close and convenient. And don’t forget a little overpriced.

McAllister's Deli (7711 Shelby St., Indianapolis, IN)1
So close to home I sometimes forget about it. A nice place to grab a sandwich and giant lemonade or iced tea (if you like that sorta thing.)
In the past few years McAllister’s has added some more options to their menus with additions of more sides (mac and cheese, fresh veggie) and more upscale entrees (salmon)
So now I see this place as more than a deli, but not quite a restaurant either.

Panda Express (5020 Southport Crossing Place, Indianapolis, IN)1
Yummy, quick, cheap and full of fat (i imagine)
but nonetheless oh so good!

Starbucks Coffee (6815 S. Emerson Ave., Indianapolis, IN)1
I actually got a free cup of coffee here, the lady at the drive thru told me she was sorry for my long wait and it was on the house.WOW! Good customer service from SB that is amazing!
And they have a nice Mocha Frapp, so good on a hot day in replacement of my usual nap!
-
Starbucks (5943 S. East St., Indianapolis, IN)3
I know I spelled that one incorrectly, hence my need of spell check and being to lazy to hit fn f12 to type it into my dictionary on my mac… but I digress
In search of my perfect mocha frapp this was the second starbucks in 2 days and I have to say it was the best on I have had so far! (from the SB anyways!)

Yats (1280 U.S. 31, Suite W, Greenwood, IN)4
I am so happy and excited to have a Yats on the south side.
No, the ambiance is not the same as Mass Ave. and BR but this is a really big step up for the south side. You have to remember this is in a strip mall, on US 31, so to me having a Yats at all is great!
I was here on opening day, the day after opening day, and the day after that… (then I went to Cali for a week) but have been back at least once a week since then. I love that we finally have another locally owned eatery to visit.
Every day this place seems to get a little bit better and a little bit more familiar with the true Yats concept I have grown to love over my years in Indy.

Mikado Japanese (148 S. Illinois St., Indianapolis, IN)3
This is one of my fav sushi restaurants in the city. I adore the sun roll. Every time I have dined here has been pleasant, the service has been a little slow but attentive.
-
Puccini's Smiling Teeth Pizza & Pasta (3944 E. 82nd St., Indianapolis, IN)5
Not sure why my original review disappeared… but it wasn’t that good of an experience. The chicken Marsala was very oily and didn’t have much flavor. The people working there were really cool and everyone in my group enjoyed their dinner.
My issue (besides my dinner being crappy) is I was given the wrong bill.. and the server did not notice until after I had paid and my mom had already gone outside with my son to leave. So as I am trying to leave.. he chases me down and I have to pay the the new bill.. no big deal about paying the new bill except for get your crap together the first time! so your guests aren’t feeling hassled!
