Brockway Public House (12525 Old Meridian St., Carmel, IN)
    6

The Brockway is a small pub with a great Irish feel. It’s a good, less pricy alternative to the Claddagh. In fact, I’d say the fish and chips is just as good as the Claddagh. However, that’s one of very few menu items they have. If you are looking for a full menu, this place is not for you.

This place is good if you are looking for a decent beer selection and full bar.

Shallo's Restaurant & Brewhouse (8811 Hardegan St., Indianapolis, IN)
    9

Hidden in an old strip mall just north of Greenwood, Shallo’s is a true original. They brag that they have the largest beer selection in the Midwest. I haven’t been to any place in Indy that even comes close in selection. Make sure to ask your waitress what is new, not all are listed on the menu. The food is great. It’s fresh and very “Indiana” (tenderloin anyone?).

The atmosphere is unique. Old relics and beer bottles decorate the walls, as well as plaques of people who have joined the “beer club.” Definitely a must visit on the south side.

Blu Martini (4705 E. 96th St., Indianapolis, IN)
    3

The Blu Martini seems to cater to a very particular clientèle, one that I do not believe I fit into. The atmosphere seems to be like every bar on “Sex in the City.” Pretentious, trendy, and overpriced. Most of the martinis on the menu are made with Smirnoff. Don’t worry though, they will charge you Stoli prices. Actually, next door I had a martini made with Stoli and it was a dollar cheaper! The atmosphere is trendy and loud. There is house music blaring, yet no dancing. If you want to “be seen” the Blu Martini is the place to be. Otherwise, try another bar.
