Acropolis Restaurant & Lounge (1625 E. Southport Road, Indianapolis, IN)
    7

This is a great little family-owned Greek restaurant on the south side. The service is quick, the food is delicious – and you might even be entertained by a belly dancer making her rounds. There’s always the comfort in knowing you will see the same people working there each time you visit, too!

Red Eye Cafe (250 S. Meridian St., Indianapolis, IN)
    5

Jammy’s review was agreeable…with the lack of one of Red Eye’s best features – people watching, particularly on a late Friday or Saturday night. With views of the sidewalks surrounding some of downtown Indianapolis busiest clubs, you are sure to be entertained by the people watching. But the food is good, too….

    T.G.I. Friday's (1251 U.S. 31 North, Greenwood, IN)

If you have been to the Greenwood Mall area at Christmas, you will know it is ‘do or die’ time. Absolutely crazy! But my friend and I made the voyage anyway… When hunger grabbed us, we went to the one place that we knew there wouldn’t be a wait – TGI Fridays in the mall. I only expected greasy bar food that would put an end to my growling belly — but what I got was one of the best meals I have had in a long time!

We started with the spinach dip (free coupon…) which was good. But it was the main course that was delicious! Parmesan crusted-chicken with a side of tortellini and mozzarella/tomato salad. The chicken was delicious – perfect texture (I can’t handle chicken if it isn’t prepared perfectly – no exposed veins or tendons, please!!), excellent flavor…and the pasta was al dente to perfection! And, even though it is winter, somehow the tomatoes in the mozzarella salad tasted fresh and summery!

The only negatives were the smell of the restaurant (bar area) which my friend described as smelling like – well, just say it did not smell good. But service was fast and the wait staff was kind!

Bosphorus (935 S. East St., Indianapolis, IN)

We came upon this restaurant while driing around aimlessly trying to find some place different to eat. And boy did we get lucky!!! This is one of the best, if not “THE” best restaurants that I have been to in Indianapolis. It’s basically styled like a small house — with beautiful decor, and hand-painted floors. They offer an extensive menu – which the wait staff is more than happy to describe in detail. The food – from the humus to the desserts, were outstanding! I can’t wait to take friends/family there! It’s surely a place that impresses. The menu offered a wide variety for tastes and budgets.

Corner Wine Bar (6331 Guilford Ave., Indianapolis, IN)
    7

The Corner Wine Bar is a small establishment, but you can typically get a table. They have few menu choices (which I believe are rotates), but every bit of it is delicious and has a unique flavor that you won’t find in any other Indianapolis restaurant. Even the carrots stand out in my memories! It’s such a treat to find a place that this quaint!

If you are a fan of Applebee’s, check this one out in the warm weather months! They have a great back deck that overlooks the river. Very nice & relaxing!

Shallo's Restaurant & Brewhouse (8811 Hardegan St., Indianapolis, IN)
    9

Shallos is a family favorite. We came upon it one day after shopping at Old Time Pottery. My dad, a business traveler, claims that Shallo’s has the best steak he’s ever tasted. The atmosphere is GREAT — you won’t believe it is in a strip mall. There’s a lot to take in and admire – and lots of Indianapolis history on each wall. Plus, you have to admire the beer bottles that border the entire extablishment. If you go, be sure to get the “zero-calorie” basket of homemade potato chips!! And a half-order is plenty for two people!

Bobby Joe's Beef and Brew (4425 Southport Crossings Way, Indianapolis, IN)
    5

While this place has great potential (particularly the patio overlooking the lake), I have been there three times and each occassion been greeted by a less than friendly management (starting at the hostess stand). Each time was a different day, different number of people and different orders – but still received the same sense that we were being looked down on.

I do have to say that the actual servers were very kind. But still, it is hard to enjoy a good meal when you feel inferior.

(I have been to 100’s of restaurants in Indy…this one is the only one that I can’t recommend. I would never give someone a bad review unless I was truly disappointed.)
